MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 638px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 283px; CURSOR: hand" border="0" alt="" src="http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p175/RuiFerreira/Aviation%20-%20Portuguese%20Military/banner1809.jpg" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Contributions for the History of FIAT G.91 T.3 FAP nr.1809&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some time ago, in August 2010, was published in the blog Pássaro de Ferro (Iron Bird), by António "A-7" Luís, another set of images by Paulo Moreno, depicting the passage through Monte Real Air Base, in 1991, of a flight of FIAT G.91's,&lt;br /&gt;[http://www.passarodeferro.com/2010/08/1991-fiats-g-91-em-monte-real.html]&lt;br /&gt;From the images, one can find the FIAT nos. 1801, 5442, 5459, 1809 plus other two.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nothing made me suppose that a reader of the site/blog Walkarounds [http://walkarounds.home.sapo.pt/] mailed us and called my attention to an interesting detail.&lt;br /&gt;One of the photos, shows the side fuselage of one of the aircraft, with the Esquadra 303 "Tigres" logo, and on the side of it, a stenciling containing, among others the Constructor Number 91-2-0034.&lt;br /&gt;[http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1M3spCWO4fE/THRTJyO4BoI/AAAAAAAADr4/uzmexrIdKWI/s1600/Photo15_11A.jpg]&lt;br /&gt;The querry, presented by this enthusiast, Paulo Alegria, is quite common, not only for those of us interested in the "spider web-like" complicated stories around aircraft "numerology", but also for those, as was the case, that are just trying to identify a photo in order to organize their collection. Furthermore, what was doing a Esquadra 303 aircraft in Mainland Portugal -- the Esquadra 303 was based at Lajes Air Base, in the Azores?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well, the last question is simpler to answer. This was 1991, the last days of the FIAT G.91 fleet were being flown (phase-out concluded in 1993). The no.1809 had returned from the Azores during 1984, it had been there from 1982, at Esquadra 303 "Tigres" [act.1981 - deact. 1989]. It was one of the few biplace aircraft, used in flight instruction of the Esquadra 301 "Jaguares" new pilots, and maybe the 303 badge was kept there as a memento of the former unit. Maybe.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I asked Paulo Moreno (the author of the photos), who not only confirmed the tail numbers, as well as confirmed the detail photo as being of 1809.&lt;br /&gt;However, I for myself, as Paulo Alegria, consulted the bibliography I have at home, and realized that the majority of the Portuguese written books have this 1809 related to c/n 91-2-0033. In fact, the only Portuguese book I have with the relation 1809/91-2-0034 is the book on the 20th anniversary of the FIAT fleet in the FAP, written my the "Masters" Gen.PILAV Mimoso e Carvalho and the Eng. Luis Tavares; as do the several editions I have of the European Air Forces Directory, by Ian Carrol (Pub. Mach III).&lt;br /&gt;This left me curious.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A few e-mails latter... I got aditional answers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A very helpful Stefan Goossens, of Dutch Aviation Society/Scramble, explained me that the trouble with 1809 comes since the publication of a work by a Paul A Jackson, on West German aircraft, back in 1976. Apparently this was the first reference to the FIAT 1809 as being c/n 91-2-0033.&lt;br /&gt;The thing is that c/n 91-2-0033 was lost in an accident in Pferdsfeld, on 21 June 1966. Therefore, Stefan Goosens reinforced the idea that WGAF 34+30 was allways c/n 91-2-0034.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the other hand, the F-40 book series on German military aircraft, by Siegfried Wache, its no.42, on the FIAT G.91 T.3, lists all the produced aircraft and their final destiny. I must confess that I was not hopping to find any other thing that the full clarification of my own doubts, I was not hoping for, yet, another surprise.&lt;br /&gt;There one can find the confirmation of the fate of c/n 91-2-0033, w/o in accident in 1966.&lt;br /&gt;However the c/n 91-20034 apears with no relation whatsoever to the aircraft received by FAP, and is reported as scrapped/destroyed(?).&lt;br /&gt;On the 1809 there is no reference in the list.&lt;br /&gt;How about that?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Somewhat latter came the confirmation of the data by Eng. Luís Tavares himself, that 1809 is c/n 91-2-0034 and exWGAF 34+30, data confirmation that dates back to the time he was searching information for the "20 years of the FIAT in FAP" book, made in co-authory with Gen. Mimoso e Carvalho.&lt;br /&gt;Referred also Eng. Luís Tavares, out of curiosity, that « the T/3 of the Luftwaffe, 44 were built at FIAT, in Turim, Italy, c/n 0001 to 0044 s/n BD+101 to BD+132. Aditionaly Dornier built another 22 aircraft, from 1971 to 1973 c/n 601 to 622 Luftwaffe 34+01 to 34+40...».&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If aditional clarification comes from Mr. Siegfried Wache this post will be updated ...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the meanwhile, aditional contacts [ex. Tancos. Lavrador e Bettencourt e o Sarg. Vitorino. Durante o voo, estavam a ouvir a emissão da Rádio Clube de Angra, um procedimento algum comum naqueles tempos durante missões de treino.&lt;br /&gt;As condições de visibilidade eram fracas e a dada altura decidem solicitar uma aproximação por instrumentos (IFR) para a BA4. Faz hoje dois anos que perdemos um Especialista, um Modelista, um Entusiasta de Aviação e, alguns de nós, um Amigo. Chegou ao fim o seu sofrimento o que, é sempre, e apesar de tudo, um alívio, sobretudo para que o viu sofrer. Hoje, porque calhou, fui lá a casa com um outro Amigo, falar com a esposa, para ver o que a família entendeu doar ao Museu do Ar e, constatei tristemente, que no fim da nossa vida tudo se resume a meia-dúzia de caixotes, cheios de pó e amarrados com sisal ou fita-cola castanha. Foi um Homem exemplar em todos os sentidos da sua vida, mas quis o destino que o Encapuçado o ceifasse (...cedo de mais, digo eu). Vá lá, deixou de sofrer, dizemos todos entredentes, tentando consolar a Saudade e o vazio deixado no seu lugar. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:85%;"&gt;A memória atraiçoa-me sempre, quando preciso dela, conheci-o no seio da AEFA e daí para o modelismo, a Luso-Fanatics, as visitas aos aviões, a fotografia, e outras deambulações aeronáuticas. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;Mais de seis meses após a conclusão inicialmente prevista para a Operação Fénix, cuja duração incial era de dois anos, fecha-se mais um ciclo, quem sabe se o derradeiro, da frota Aerospatiàle SA.330S1 Puma, e também da Esquadra 752.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;Terminou ontem, 5 de Abril de 2011, às 10 horas da manhã, o último Alerta SAR, com a rendição a cargo do EH-101 Merlin da Esquadra 751, do Destacamento Aéreo dos Açores, na Base Aérea nº4, nas Lajes. Sem pompa e circunstância, volta a FAP a recolher os Puma, que desde 24 de Setembro de 2008 até hoje efectuaram centenas de horas de voo, na sua grande maioria na Busca e Salvamento, e Evacuações Médicas, quer no imenso Atlântico, quer no espaço inter-ilhas. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;Para a História ficam os números e as memórias dos momentos vividos num espírito que é único e que liga as gentes do ar, ás gentes que dependem do socorro vindo do céu, quer os que no imenso azul lutam para o seu sustento e a sobrevivência de outros, como aqueles que, no seu dia-a-dia não podem ser culpabilizados por viverem uma realidade em que dependem de outros para os mais básicos cuidados de saúde. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;O pessoal da Esquadra 752, esforçado e re-esforçado no cumprimento da sua Missão, manteve até ao fim a serenidade e abnegação de quem sabe que a sua realidade do dia-a-dia, a realidade operacional e familiar, apesar de difícil e complicada, nada vale em face daqueles que erguem os braços em sinal de auxílio à espera que as gentes do ar, de espírito aguerridamente felino, os resgatem literalmente para o céu. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;Como disse um dia numa outra situação semelhante, não fui mecânico, nem piloto, nem tão pouco recuperador, nem estive de algum modo ligado aos Puma ou às esquadras de voo que o operaram, mas confesso que me identifico com a Vossa Dor agora que é chegada a hora da partida, e por isso sinto um enorme pesar, e por isso sinto uma dor no peito que não consigo transparecer em palavras. edition took place a Base Aérea nº1 Sintra, organized by the museological association Aero Fénix, with the support and cooperation of the Força Aérea Portuguesa.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The aim of this aeronautical event was, as in previous editions, the divulgation to the public the existing aviation museums in Portugal, showing their work but also their need for funds, via sponsors, for their individual and collective projects, therefore this edition had a small fee for each visitor, thus the amount collected, returned for both the Museu do Ar and the Aero Fénix.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br Funchal with personnel and material for the FAP exhibition.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2010.06.26&lt;br /&gt;arr. Alphajets 15250 and 15206, to Funchal Airport, escorted during the oceanic flight by P-3C 14807.&lt;br /&gt;15206 was noted around noon that day practicing its demo flight at Funchal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2010.06.27&lt;br /&gt;noted Funchal airport on static display, 14807 P-3C, 16505 C-212, 16705 C-295M, 15133 + 15126 F-16AM, 17402 Falcon 50, 19605 EH-101, 16804 C-130, 15250 + 15206 Alphajet. Also noted at Funchal was 16806 C-130H, and 19603 EH-101 from Porto Santo (DAM/AM3).&lt;br /&gt;Another C-295M was noted flying but the no. is unknowned, and SE.3160 Alouette III 19377, both in “baptism flights” from Funchal.&lt;br /&gt;The Rotores de Portugal demo aircraft were nos. 19376 and 19340.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2010.06.28 the Rotores de Portugal display at Câmara de Lobos was with a/c’s 19340 and 19376, standing 19401 in reserve. &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;A Piper Cub, cujo último registo foi o CS-ALN (ex FAP 3208), faz parte do acervo do Museu do Ar desde 1985, tendo estado armazenada em Beja antes da sua vinda para Ovar. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;Os primeiros Piper Cub para utilização militar recebidos em Portugal datam de 1952, altura em que foram recebidos pela Arma de Aeronáutica do Exército, ao abrigo de acordos com os Estados Unidos da América, nomeadamente do Mutual Defense Aid Program (MDAP).&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;Os 22 aparelhos recebidos, nos modelos L-21A e L-21B, convertidos para a versão L-21B Super Cub, foram entregues á Arma de Artilharia, para serem utilizados como aparelhos de observação na correcção de tiro de artilharia, sendo por isso baseados no aerodromo da Escola Prática de Artilharia, em Vendas Novas.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;Nesta altura, e dado que o Exército já não possuia pessoal especializado para a sua manutenção (com a criação da Força Aérea Portuguesa, todo o pessoal tinha sido transferido para a FAP), pelo que tinham de se socorrer do auxílio da FAP para a manutenção, bem como para o voo das aeronaves, sempre que necessitavam, pois o Exército possuia apenas dois pilotos brevetados e qualificados para estas aeronaves e para a missão de apoio á Artilharia. Este reforço de pessoal acontecia sobretudo em alturas de grandes exercícios militares, como foi o caso de exercícios em 1953 e 1955.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;Dada a fraca utilização destes aparelhos, a partir de 1955, os mesmos foram transferidos para a FAP, sendo que a aprtir dessa data a FAP passou a fornecer aviões e pilotos para a Artilharia do Exército, sempre que tal fosse necessário, o que aconteceu por diversas vezes.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;A Força Aérea Portuguesa recebe por sua vez, em 1954, e ao abrigo do mesmo acordo, 8 Piper Cub, do modelo PA-18-125 Super Cub, tendo sido colocados na Base Aérea nº3, em Tancos, em substituição dos Westland Lysander.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;A versão recebida era uma versão civil, de potência mais reduzida, tendo sido pintados inicialmente com um esquema de pintura cinzento claro, com uma faixa vermelha ao longo da fuselagem, pintura que foi gradualmente substituída por uma pintura em verde escuro, semelhante aos aparelhos que tinham sido recebidos pelo Exército.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;Os aparelhos do Exército são integrados na FAP durante o ano de 1955, mas já em numero mais reduzido, apenas 19, pelo que a numeração destes últimos entrou em&lt;span style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;sequência dos já existentes, do nº 3209 a 3227.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;Foram retirados de serviço em 1976, seguindo alguns para o mercado civil, sendo que desta forma alguns aeroclubes receberam aparelhos oriundos da FAP, alguns dos quais ainda voam nos dias de hoje, ora na propriedade de aeroclubes, ora na propriedade de particulares.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;O Museu do Ar, possui alguns Piper Cub no seu acervo, encontrando-se o nº3212 exposto (Alverca), o nº 3218 em estado de voo (baseado em Sintra), e o CS-ALN/3208 em exposição estática. LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Estes dois Vampires T.55 foram construídos na fábrica da De Havilland de Christchurch, sendo o c/n 15072 (FAP no.5801) entregue a 30 de Outubro de 1952 e o c/n 15073 (FAP no.5802) a 4 de Dezembro de 1952.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Estes aparelhos que dão afinal o início à denominada “Era dos Jactos” na FAP, pois foram efectivamente os primeiros aparelhos a jacto operados pela FAP, no sentido de promover a adaptação de pilotos dos aparelhos a hélice para aparelhos a jacto, acabaram por ter a sua vida encurtada, na medida em que os Vampire, de construção inglesa, em muito diferiam dos F-84, de construção norte-americana, e que a FAP começou a receber em 1953.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Por isso, pouco tempo depois são tornados redundantes, sendo em meados da década de 50 colocados em na Base Aérea nº3 em Tancos, onde voaram poucas vezes.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Não se sabe se regressaram à Base Aérea nº2, na Ota, apenas se sabe que terão sido colocados á venda no início da década de 60.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;O seu destino final é pouco claro, e por esse facto interessante, pois as dúvidas que causa só estarão resolvidas, como em tantos outros casos, quando provas mais conclusivas forem aceites por todos.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;O autor do artigo sobre estes aparelhos na Secção de Modelismo da Revista da BA5 (início dos anos 80?), afirma que um dos T.55 foi o aparelho trocado pelo F.B.9 existente no Museu, sendo que o outro, nº5802, como tendo sido usado como aparelho para treino de bombeiros da BA1, em Sintra. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Tahoma', 'sans-serif'; mso-fareast-: PTfont-family:'Times New Roman';" &gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Uma outra fonte refere, com alguma incerteza, que terão seguido caminho para África, para o Zaire ou Katanga, mas que não sairam do chão, pois foram destruidos em combate. Algo que não será de todo inverosímel, pelos apoios encapotados de diferentes governos ocidentais, a alguns dos regimes africanos de então, nos mais variados conflitos. Durante alguns anos esteve exposto no Museu do Ar em Alverca (até Maio de 2002), restaurado como sendo o 5801. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 639px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 397px; CURSOR: hand" border="0" alt="" src="http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p175/RuiFerreira/Aviation%20-%20Portuguese%20Military/VZ831VampireRAF01peq.jpg" /&gt; &lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;Nela podemos ver um Vampire de registo militar inglês VZ831 estacionado da placa da Base Aérea nº1, em Sintra.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Segundo julgo saber, este aparelho, um Vampire F.B.5, foi construído na fábrica da De Havilland em Hatfield, no Reino Unido, encontrando-se pronto para voo a 30 de Junho de 1950.&lt;br /&gt;Teve a sua primeira aparição nas corridas aéreas ocorridas no mês seguinte, em Sherburn-in-Elmet, aos comandos do piloto de testes da De Havilland, John Derry, que terminou a prova em segundo lugar. Curiosamente este aparelho terá sido o substituto de última hora do prototipo do Venom de registo VV612, que por falha de motor não pode participar.&lt;br /&gt;Ainda antes da entrega à RAF, integrou a exposição estática da De Havilland no SBAC Air Show, em Farnborough, entre 5 e 10 de Setembro de 1950.&lt;br /&gt;Foi dado à carga da Unidade de Manutenção No.5 da RAF, em Kemble (Cirencester, Gloucestershire) em 6 de Outubro de 1950.&lt;br /&gt;Seguiu para Lisboa, para demonstrações de voo na Aeronáutica Militar Portuguesa, de 14 a 19 de Julho de 1950, altura em que regressa ao No.5 MU (Unidade de Manutenção).&lt;br /&gt;A 8 de Janeiro de 1951 é dado á carga do Esquadrão No.602 (City of Glasgow), da Royal Auxiliary Air Force, baseado em Abbotsinch (actual Aeroporto Internacional de Glasgow).&lt;br /&gt;A 7 de Junho de 1953 ocorre um problema com a bússola durante um voo de treino, e dada a incerteza quanto à sua posição, o piloto, Pt. Off. W M Agnew, aterrou de emergência num terreno a 2 milhas a Norte de Prestwick, já sem combustível, dafinicando gravemente o aparelho.&lt;br /&gt;Este foi posteriormente foi recebido no No.63 MU (Unidade de Manutenção), não tendo sido reparado, consequentemente abatido à carga da RAF, em 30 de Junho de 1953.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mais não tive curiosidade de saber, pois já este bocadinho foi mais do que estava à espera. Contudo, fica por esclarecer o que afinal andou este jacto a fazer pela Lusitânia?&lt;br /&gt;A resposta encontrei-a, com a ajuda de um amigo, em duas publicações, que referem à passagem deste aparelho por Portugal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A Royal Air Force iniciou a operação com jactos ainda durante a Segunda Grande Guerra, com a introdução do Gloster Meteor, tendo o primeiro De Havilland DH100 Vampire Mk.I entrado em serviço apenas em 1945. Com a sua entrada em operaçãoe até ao início dos anos 50, a De Havilland produziu mais de 3.200 aparelhos, em 15 versões diferentes, não só para serviço no Reino Unido mas também outros países, como a Venezuela, a França, a Itália, a Suíça, a Noruega, a Suécia, e boa parte dos países da Commonwealth.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Neste contexto, trouxe a De Havilland a Portugal, e a convite deste, um DH100 Vampire para 4 dias de demonstrações de voo, para avaliar das potêncialidades e interesse de vir adquirir o mesmo modelo para a aviação militar, no caso, a Arma de Aeronáutica do Exército.&lt;br /&gt;Desta forma, a 14 de Julho de 1950, um De Havilland Vampire F.B.5, registo RAF VZ831, pilotado por John Derry, parte do aeroporto de Hurn, em Londres, rumo ao aeroporto da Portela, em Lisboa, efectuando um voo sem escalas onde chegou depois de 2 horas e 14 minutos, tendo percorrido uma distância de 1.452 kms, a uma velocidade média de 651 km/h.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A principal demonstração de voo teve lugar apenas no dia 17 de Julho, após o que o aparelho se dirigiu para a Base Aéra de Sintra. A estas demonstração e seguintes, marcaram presença diversas entidades aeronáuticas civis e militares portuguesas, de onde se destaca a presença de ministros, como o da Guerra, Comunicações, Marinha, e do Interior, bem como diversos Adidos Aeronáuticos, para além de inumeros militares.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Se fizermos o exercício mental de recuar no tempo, podemos imaginar que o ruído dos aparelhos a jacto, algo que seria ainda considerado estranho nas lusitanas paragens, fez acorrer ao Aeroporto de Lisboa muitos populares que, habitualmente pasmados com a "cousa do ar", mais o ficaram perante este pequeno e estridente jacto da De Havilland, que debitava as suas 1362kg de potência da sua turbina "Goblin II". Ao que parece, diz uma das fontes, foi mesmo preciso organizar as hostes, e diversos autocarros despejaram junto do aeroporto algumas centenas de pessoas que, curiosas, queriam assistir ao fenómeno, o que veio a acontecer nos diferentes dias em que tiveram lugar as exibições.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Outras demonstrações de voo tiveram lugar, como se disse, em dias seguintes, mas desta vez, e particularmente nas duas seguintes, o "Vampiro" tinha aos comandos pilotos portugueses, da Arma de Aeronáutica do Exército, nomeadamente o Tenentes Hildo Faria de Queiroz, que efectuou um voo de 36 minutos no dia 17, e o Tenente João Zorro Rangel de Lima, a 18 de Julho.&lt;br /&gt;Como este "Vampiro" era monolugar, a formação foi dada com os pés assentes no chão, mesmo assim os dois pilotos da Aeronáutica Militar puderam experienciar o voo com deste aparelho, e sobre o qual teceram os mais escancarados elogios à sua performance. Desde logo se destaca que, a formação de voo para os pilotos portugueses foi dada pelo piloto da marca, e a largada a solo muito simples, pelo que rápidamente os pilotos aprenderam as necessárias diferenças e o puderam experimentar em manobras diversas, desde a descolagem subindo rápidamente aos 12.000 pés, à perda, loopings, "Immelman", "tonneaux", e outras que não descreveram, chegando a acelerar até a Mach 0,72!&lt;br /&gt;Nas palavras do Ten. Rangel de Lima, à Revista do Ar, quando questionado sobre a sua impressão do voo "Vampire", refere que «Um motorista... que toda a sua vida tenha guiado uma D. Elvira velha, sem mudanças sincronizadas, cheia de ruídos e em seguida, pegue num moderno automóvel de luxo, sente a mesma sensação que eu senti quando comecei a ganhar altura no "Vampire".»&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Na manhã do dia 19 de Julho, John Derry volta a fazer uma demonstração de voo, terminando com isso a os quatro dias passados em Portugal, e na tarde desse mesmo dia, efectua o voo de Lisboa à base da De Havilland em Hatfield, percorrendo uma distância de 1600 kms, a uma velocidade média de 717 km/h, tendo atingido a costa inglesa após 1H57M de voo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As conhecidas alterações à estrutura das Forças Armadas, em anos seguintes, nomeadamente com a criação em 1952 da Força Aérea Portuguesa, que aglutinou e fez extinguir os ramos de aeronáutica da Marinha e Exército, tomaram um rumo diferente no que concerne á aquisição de aparelhos a jacto, pendendo a opção de então por um aparelho norte-americano, o Republic F-84 Thunderchief. Ainda que, como se sabe, tenham sido adquiridos em 1952 dois DH115 Vampire T.55, para a conversão de pilotos, que não tiveram grande uso.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;John Derry, nasceu no Cairo a 5 de Dezembro de 1921, tendo feito os seus estudos em Inglaterra, alistou-se na Royal Air Force como operador de rádio e metralhador, voando em Wellingtons e Hudsons. Em 1942 segue para o Canadá onde tira o curso de pilotagem. É integrado no Esquadrão 182 em 1944, a voar Hawker Typhoons em missões de apoio de fogo ás operações nos Países Baixos. Serviu também no Esquadrão 181 e mais tarde chegou a comandar o 182. Recebeu a Distinguished Flying Cross.&lt;br /&gt;Inicia-se como piloto de testes da Supermarine, e em 1947 foi admitido na De Havilland Aircraft Co. Ltd., tendo feito desde então muito do seu trabalho centrado no projecto do DH108, ainda que tenha voado muitos dos diferentes aparelhos De Havilland em teste de voo ou demonstrações como foi o caso do DH100 Vampire (diversos modelos), DH110 Sea Vixen, DH115 Venom (primeiro voo do primeiro protótipo).&lt;br /&gt;Recebeu o "nick" de John Faster Than the Sound Derry, por ter sido o primeiro piloto britânico a bater a barreira do som, quando a 6 de Setembro de 1948, perdeu o controle do seu aparelho (DH108) após este ter entrado em velocidade supersónica, durante uma descida em voo picado dos 40.000 aos 30.000 pés. Luís Araújo, for the extraordinary performance of the unit during one year of operation, recognizing the spirit of sacrifice, and high mission spirit of all its personnel.&lt;br /&gt;The Esquadra 752 mantained during this period a operational capability above the required standard, registering an average of over 65 flight hours available per day, and an operational readiness above the FAP average, and an operational effectiveness of 78%.&lt;br /&gt;The Esquadra 752 totalized during this year (24 September 2008 – 24 September 2009) over 863 flight hours, over 510 of wich in operational missions, logging 114 inter-islands medical evacuations, 9 medical evacuations over sea, and 8 search and rescue missions. PILAV Rafael Martins, uma pequena lembrança do GAMA, pela mão do Cor. MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 80px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 114px; CURSOR: hand" border="0" alt="" src="http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p175/RuiFerreira/FAP%20-%20logotipos%20e%20emblemas/ba11.gif" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#000099;"&gt;A Base Aérea nº11, foi inaugurada a 21 de Outubro de 1961, recebendo o seu estatuto de Comando a 16 de Agosto de 1967, passando a ser operada a partir de 1970 pela FAP, pela Força Aérea Alemã, pela Lufthansa e pela TAP.&lt;br /&gt;Em 1987 dá-se a transferência da primeira unidade aérea da FAP para esta base aéra, a Esquadra 103, proveniente da Base Aérea nº5.&lt;br /&gt;Em 1993, e com a não-renovação do acordo Luso-Alemão para utilização em permanência da Base de Beja pela Luftwaffe, são aí colocadas mais três esquadras de voo, nomeadamente a Esquadra 101, Esquadra 301, e Esquadra 552.&lt;br /&gt;A Luftwaffe termina a sua operação oficialmente em Beja em 1994.&lt;br /&gt;A 25 de Novembro de 2005, a Esquadra 301 é transferira para a BA5, e a 19 de Fevereiro de 2008, a Esquadra 601 é colocada na BA11.&lt;br /&gt;A 30 de Setembro de 2009, foi a vez da Esquadra 101 ser transferira de novo para a BA1, em Sintra.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A Base Aérea nº11 tem por missão a prontidão e o emprego das unidades aéreas que lhe estão atribuídas, a exploração dos serviços de aeródromo, e o garantir a segurança militar e a defesa imediata da unidade.&lt;br /&gt;Tem um efectivo de 853 elementos, entre oficiais , sargentosm praças e civis, estando-lhe atribuídas 31 aeronaves, correspondentes às três unidades aéreas que ali estão baseadas, as Esquadras 103 “Caracóis”, Esquadra 552 “Zangões” e Esquadra 601 “Lobos”.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p175/RuiFerreira/GAMA/logoGAMA2jpeg.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; São locais como este, quase anónimos de quaisquer conotação aeronáutica, e por onde passamos ser saber, onde foram escritas as primeiras linhas da história da Aviação em Portugal, uma história rica e com feitos memoráveis.&lt;br /&gt;Acrescente-se que foi a 2 de Dezembro de 1883 que se realizou neste local a primeira ascenção do aeronauta francês Emilien Castanet a bordo do balão “Rosita”.&lt;br /&gt;Em segundo lugar, e como referência desta temática, refira-se a publicação de dois volumes intitulados “Portugal na Aventura de Voar”, do punho de Henriques-Mateus, que abordam de uma forma séria todo o periodo do pioneirismo aeronáutico em Portugal, em que aeronautas mais ou menos garbosos se lançaram na conquista do azul.&lt;br /&gt;Ambos os volumes puderam ser adquiridos junto com edições diárias do Jornal Público, po cerca de 15 euros cada, podendo posteriormente ser adquiridos na Loja do Jornal Público online [http://www.publico.clix.pt/]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;a href="http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p175/RuiFerreira/Blogosfera/baleslivres.jpg"&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;img style="DISPLAY: block; A única Do27 em operação actualmente pelo Museu do Ar, ostenta as cores e o esquema de pintura da nº3357, por que alguém em tempos disse que o queria ver restaurado como o "seu" avião.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;No entanto o que o identifica correctamente é a sua placa de registo do contructor, que não deixa lugar para enganos.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;O No.3358 foi, como as restantes, operada anteriormente pela Força Aérea Alemã, sendo os seus registos anteriores, por ordem, PB+224, QB+401, PZ+218 e 55+85.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Dornier Do27 reg.CS-AQH&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;&lt;img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 297px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p175/RuiFerreira/Aviation%20-%20Portuguese%20Military/CS-AQHdoIMG_9766.jpg" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;Os "afficcionados" da numeralogia e que não tem medo de sujar as mãos na ferrugem, encontram em Coimbra desde há alguns anos, um vasto relicário de aparelhos e partes, de todo o tipo de aeronaves ligeiras, essencialmente civis, mas também algumas, que foram militares.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;"&gt;Ainda persiste por lá, depois de um malfadado acidente, a Dornier Do27 reg.CS-AQH, pertença do Aero Clube de Braga desde 1977.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;"&gt;Esta causa alguma confusão, pois se procurarmos na primeira edição dos Aviões da Cruz de Cristo, o Mestre Canongia fala que a relação do c/n 384 é com o número FAP &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;3472, na edição seguinte, já é com o 3462, igualmente o diz o Mestre MAJ.Adelino Cardoso no seu livro. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;Mais ainda, um dos livros "F40" sobre a Dornier Do27, do Siegfried Wache, um autor com imensas publicações do género sobre aeronaves militares alemãs, reforça que o c/n 384 foi depois o FAP nº3462 (exWGAF GA+381 e LC+161). &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;Curiosamente, uma das asas existentes em Coimbra, podemos já ver, por debaixo do registo civil CS-AQH, o número FAP 3464 !!! Algo que não me espanta, nem admira, pois uma troca por canibalização no passado não é de estranhar, de modo algum, só falta uma confirmação fidedigna. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;Mas afinal em que é que ficamos? CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p175/RuiFerreira/Aviation%20-%20Portuguese%20Military/D-EFQK2009IMG_2036cnplate.jpg" border="0" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Em restauro, um restauro de precisão de relojoeiro, devo realçar, mais um trabalho de amor a sair das mãos do Mestre Pinto, uma outra Dornier Do27 verá o seu primeiro voo no ano que vem, esperamos todos nós. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Para a sua história consta que já foi da Força Aérea Suiça (reg.V-606), e também ostentou os registos HB-HAC e D-EFQK.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;Já voou como sendo o nºFAP '3422', um número sempre a colocar sempre entre aspas, já que, na verdade, nunca integrou a FAP operacionalmente.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Quer dizer ... ainda apareceu em festivais aéreos e rebocou planadores da AFA, mas sobre as estórias do porquê de esta Do27 estar por aqui, tenho de me socorrer das memórias de um amigo que, tendo sempre sonhado com a FAP receber (ainda no Ultramar) as Dornier Do27 H2, «bem falta fizeram», só anos depois conseguiu pelo menos adquirir uma, para o Museu do Ar, e que em breve voltará a cruzar o azul...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img style="DISPLAY: block;
